If Notre Dame can survive and be rebuilt, so can you

Watching Notre Dame burning yesterday I couldn’t help but cry. I’m not Catholic but I understand what the Cathedral means to the French people, what the history and significance of it are. It’s sad to see something like that, that has survived for so long, been through so much of the best and worst of history, to be destroyed.

I think I cried in part because in some ways I feel like I have been watching my own life burn down for the past 2 years. I’ve been dealing with health issues (both mental and physical) that made me have to take a major step back from doing what I most love to do in my business. I’ve lost so much of the life I used to have, the life I loved, the life I worked so hard to build for so long.

There have been days I felt ruined and wanted to give up. There have been days when I felt like I would never get past all this. There have been days when I didn’t want to survive.

I don’t know what you’ve been through or are going through, but I know a lot of people are hurting, feel like their lives are burning down and are questioning their purpose and their future right now too.

I know we all have a past and most of us don’t have pasts we are proud of. Most of us have trauma from our childhood that haunts us long into adulthood too.

As the sun set in Paris and the darkness of night fell, we all wondered what would be left of Our Lady when the daylight came & we could see clearly again.

Come morning light, everyone was relieved to see that Notre Dame didn’t burn down completely.

I’m finally starting to find my way out of the darkness of these past 2 years, of the shame and trauma, the panic attacks, the exhaustion, the physical sickness, the fear.

I’m finally starting to see and feel the light again, starting to believe in myself and my future again.

You’ll see the sunrise and feel the clarity of a bright new day soon too.

It might not be like what you thought it would be anymore though.

I’m starting over in many ways. There’s a lot of work to be done to rebuild but it gives me a chance to rebuild things better this time around. You have that same chance too.

Our Lady survived.

I have survived. You have survived. You are surviving right now even if it doesn’t feel like it.

You aren’t going to burn down completely. You have more to do on this earth.

Yes she is charred and damaged. She has a gaping hole in her roof. There is smoke and water damage and some important artifacts are lost.

But she is still standing and the most important things remain. Her heart, her faith, her true beauty, her significance – and so does yours.

The people & the world want to see her rebuilt. She serves a purpose for so many – and so do you.

There are billionaires pledging money to help rebuild her (and yes I think there might be better humanitarian causes that could use that kind of donation but this post is not about that, politics. religion or money….)

You have access to infinite wealth to help you rebuild too – God (or the universe, source, whatever you personally believe in) and everything you need to rebuild is right within you & all around you.

Whatever fire is burning you down right now or whatever ashes you are standing on… Look around, there is still so much beauty, there is still so much treasure, there is still so much hope.

Our experiences are what shape us. Our struggles are what strengthen us. What we go through and survive, we can use to help others.

When we heal ourselves, we help others heal.

If Notre Dame can survive and be rebuilt, so can you, so can I, so can anyone!

With love and gratitude,
Misty Kearns
